New Release April 8th!

Fight, flight, and freeze are no way to live - so quit living that way.

Sometimes we need a superhero to protect us from something that is too overwhelming or chronically present for us to handle. Unfortunately that superhero is the reactionary part of our brain that resorts to fight, flight, or freeze in the face of perceived threat. Sometimes the superhero who rescued us sticks around, thinking we need his constant protection. Unfortunately for us, our superhero is now a little out of shape and his version of protection is screwing up our lives with over-the-top reactions to everyday stuff.

So, if your life is ruled by anger, or you tend to avoid all things difficult, rely on substances and food to get you through stressful situations, or you  just haven’t grown in life like you know you probably should, you might have a superhero who has taken up residence. This book is about understanding why you do what you do when you don’t know why you do what you do.

R.L. Greene isn’t a therapist or anything like that. His one credential, if you can call it that, is having worked in the human services field for the past decade or so. He’s witnessed firsthand the fallout caused in people’s lives by past traumatic experiences – and especially from trauma that happened early in life.

While this may not make him an expert, he doesn’t think discerning obvious connections between a person’s past and their present behaviors necessarily requires a degree. Also, he’s kinda noticed that the more impressive the letters behind an author’s name, the less in tune that author is with everyday people and everyday lives.

What he’s found interesting, is that a lot of the people he’s asked to critique this book have come back to him and asked somewhat accusingly, “Did you write this about me?” Even the people he believed to be totally well-adjusted saw themselves as superhero protected at various levels. If this little book is that relatable, he figures he’s not too far off the mark - even if he doesn’t have impressive letters behind his name.

He also thinks that there needs to be something written about fight, flight, and freeze that isn’t written using words that no one’s ever heard of before. He thinks stuff this serious needs to be written in a way that’s kind of light and humorous – instead so dry and clinical that it makes you want to fall to your knees and pray, “Dear Lord, kill me now.”

He hopes this little book - that’s also just filled with zany photos to help lighten the subject matter - meets you where you are, helps you understand where you’ve been, and gets you started on the way to being the person you really want to be.
